मन्त्र की अपने आप में पूर्ण और स्वतंत्र सत्ता है। जीवन के पार्थिव अपार्थिव चेतन अचेतन, निष्क्रिय और सक्रिय जीवन में मन्त्र की सर्वोपरि महत्वता है। बिना मन्त्र के जीवन का अस्तित्व सम्भव ही नहीं। वेदों में मन्त्र को सर्वोच्च सत्ता एवं उन्हें ब्रह्म के समान माना है। हमारे जीवन में जो कुछ भी घटित हो रहा है इसके मूल में मन्त्र की सत्ता विद्यमान है। यह बात अलग है कि हम उनके अस्तित्व को स्वीकार करें या न करें अथवा मन्त्र के महत्व को समझें या न समझें, परन्तु यह निश्चित है कि बिना मन्त्र के हमारे जीवन का कोई अस्तित्व नहीं। मानव जो कुछ बोलता है वह अपने आप में शब्द है और जब शब्द का सम्बन्ध अर्थ से हो जाता है तो वह कल्याणमय बन जाता है। वे शब्द निरर्थक होते है जिनके मूल में अर्थ विद्यमान नहीं रहता। कालिदास ने ‘वागर्थाविव’ कह कर इसी कथन की पुष्टि की है, परन्तु जिसके मूल में अर्थ है वे शब्द ही सार्थक है। ऐसा नहीं कहा जा सकता, क्योंकि जब शब्द को ब्रह्म कह दिया जाता है तब फिर प्रत्येक शब्द ब्रह्मय बन जाता है। हम लौकिक व्यक्ति जिन शब्दों के अर्थ समझ लेते है उन्हें सार्थक कहते है पर जिन शब्दों को हम नहीं समझ पाते वे वास्तव में ही इतने उच्च कोटि के होते है कि हमारी बुद्धि उन शब्दों के मूल तक नहीं पहुँच पाती और इसी लिए हम अपने अहं के वशीभूत होकर उन शब्दों को निष्क्रिय कह देते है। -Mantra Rahasya Book.
