ज्योतिषशास्त्र के तीन भाग हैं संहिता, तंत्र और होरा-संहिता में प्राकृतिक ज्योतिष का वर्णन है जैसे सुभिक्ष, दुर्भिक्ष, वृष्टि अतिवृष्टि, अनावृष्टि, राजकीय उपद्रव इत्यादि जो प्राकृतिक हैं और तंत्र में गणित ज्योतिष का वर्णन है अर्थात् सूर्य चन्द्र स्पष्ट करना ग्रहण बनाना इत्यादि बातें जिनका सम्बन्ध गणित से हैं और होरा में फलित ज्योतिष का वर्णन अर्थात् हर एक प्राणी के जन्म काल के ग्रहों की स्थिति पर से उसके समग्र जीवन का वृतान्त समझने की रीती लिखी है। प्रश्न शास्त्र होरा ही में सम्मिलित है प्रश्न शास्त्र के बहुत से ग्रन्थ हैं परन्तु ‘ज्ञानप्रदीप’ और ‘जिनेन्द्र्माला’ ये दो ग्रन्थ इस विषय में मुख्य हैं, इन ग्रन्थों का तात्पर्य एक ही है और इनकी शैली ‘षटूपंचाशिका’ ‘भुवनदीपक’ आदि ग्रन्थों से पृथक् है क्योंकि उन ग्रन्थों में केवल प्रकाशक नवग्रहों का ही विचार है और जिनेन्द्र्माला व ज्ञानप्रदीप में अप्रकाशक ग्रहों का भी विचार किया गया है। – Jyotish Kalpdroom Book
