प्रश्न ज्योतिष किसी विशिष्ट प्रश्न पर आधारित ज्योतिष की वह विद्या है जिसके द्वारा हम किसी विशिष्ट समय पर आसान फल का ज्ञान प्राप्त करते है। इस विद्या में सारी गणना पूछे गये समय पर बनाये गये चार्ट या कुंडली पर आधारित होती है। इसलिए इस विद्या का मूल आधार प्रश्न कुण्डली (अर्थात् पूछे गए समय पर बनाई गयी कुंडली) के लग्न पर निर्भर करता है। यदि एक बार सही लग्न प्राप्त कर ली तो बाकी पंचांग में दिए गए उक्त समय के घरों में अवस्थित कर दिए गए हैं। एक बार कुण्डली सही बन जाए तो विभिन्न भावों के अनुसार पूछे गए प्रश्न का हल राशि-गृह, दृष्टि संबंध इत्यादि के आधार पर निकाला जाता है। चूंकि इसके लिए प्रश्नकर्ता की जन्मकुंडली होना आवश्यक नहीं है इसलिए यह उनके लिए बेहद लाभदायक विद्या है जिनकी जन्मकुंडली किसी कारण से बन ही नहीं पाई हो। मान लीजिये किसी जातक को अपने इम्तहान के नतीजों को जानने की उत्कंठा है। तो जिस समय उसने यह प्रश्न पूछा हो उसी समय लग्न-निर्धारित कर उसकी कुंडली बनाई जाएगी और भाव विशेष के आधार पर भविष्य कथन किया जायेगा। इसके इन्स्टेंट ज्योतिष या तुरन्ता ज्योतिष इसलिए भी कहते हैं क्यों इसमें तुरन्त आपको आने वाले समय में फल की सुचना मिल जाती है। -Prashan Jyotish Shastra Book.
