लक्ष्मी या जमीन में दबे हुए धन को खोजने का पुरुषार्थ कभी असफल नहीं होता। वह कभी-न-कभी कर्मफल के रूप में परिणाम अवश्य देगा-चाहे वह इस जन्म में न मिले तो पुनर्जन्म में प्राप्त होगा। लक्ष्मी अथवा धन को विनष्ट प्रारूप में है उसे क्रियान्वित करने की प्रक्रिया जिससे वह समाज की प्रगति के काम में आ सके ऐसा प्रयत्न करने से चाहे तो कोई परोक्ष लाभ प्रतीत न हो लेकिन अपरोक्ष लाभ उसके जीवन में अवश्य परिलक्षित होंगे। इच्छाएँ व आशाएँ अनन्त हैं, सभी पूरी नहीं होतीं। किसी के लिए यह संसार सुख का सागर है तो किसी के दुःख का भण्डार। विडम्बना यह है कि नेकी के मार्ग पर चलने पर भी दुःख मिलता है, तब यही कहकर संतोष करना पड़ता है कि प्रभु की इच्छा नहीं थी और कर भी क्या सकते हैं भला हुआ तो प्रभु की इच्छा से बुरा हुआ तो प्रभु की मर्जी। श्रीकृष्ण का गीता में कहना भी है कि सभी योग क्षेम मेरे ऊपर छोड़कर मनुष्य केवल अपना कर्म करे फल मैं दूँगा, किन्तु जब अनुकूल फल का इच्छुक मानव अपने कर्तापन के अधिकार को पाने का प्रयास करता है तो वहीं उसे दुःख व निराशा का सामना करना पड़ता है।
संसार में धन की आवश्यकता किसे नहीं है। वैभव विलास से लेकर पूजा पाठ तक बिना धन के संभव नहीं। व्यक्ति चाहे आस्तिक हो या नास्तिक धन प्राप्ति के यथासंभव प्रयत्न अवश्य करता है। वह बिना धन के सदैव पीड़ित ही रहता है। अपने और पराये सभी उसका अपमान करते हैं। हमारी परम्परा में धन की अधिष्ठात्री देवी लक्ष्मी साधना के अनेक उपाय हैं लेकिन इसमें परेशानी यह है कि ये बड़े कठिन होते हैं और हर कोई इन्हें सफलतापूर्वक कर भी नहीं पाता लेकिन शास्त्रों में ऐसे भी साधन हैं जिन्हें सरलतापूर्वक किया जा सके। जमीन में दबा हुआ धन पाना भी उन प्रयत्नों में से एक है।
