आब्रह्मकीटान्तनिबद्धमिदं जगत् नूनं ब्रह्मणोऽवर्णनीया रचना विद्यते। अखिल ब्रह्माण्डस्य नायक: भगवान सूर्य: स्वसहस्त्ररश्मिभि: सर्वान् ग्रहान् जीवान्चानुदिनं प्रभावयति। ग्रहगणना-कालगणना-ग्रहप्रभावस्य च परिगणना ज्योतिषशास्त्रस्य प्रमुखविषयोऽस्तीति। भूपृष्ठस्थानां चराचराणामुपरि ग्रहाणां विलक्षणप्रभाव: सर्वदैकरूपं न भवति अपितु ग्रहर्क्षरश्मे: न्यूनाधिकप्रभावात जगति शुभाशुभावस्थाभेदेन भिन्नं भिन्न भवति। प्राच्यविद्यासंरक्षणे तत्परा: अस्माकमाचार्या: कया रीत्या आश्र्चर्योत्पादकं विलक्षणप्रभावयुक्तमिदं शास्त्रं निर्मितवन्त इति अद्यापि रहस्यमयं विद्यते। अष्टादशप्रवर्त्तकै: ऋषिभि: प्रवर्तितमिदं ज्योतिषशास्त्रं लोके अद्यापि चाक्षुषान्गेंगत्वेन अत्यधिकं महत्वं विभर्ति। यत्र अन्यानि सर्वाणि शस्त्राणि अप्रत्यक्षाणि सन्ति तत्र केवलं ज्योतिषमेव प्रत्यक्षशास्त्रं विद्यते। इदं शास्त्रं अद्यापि मानवहिताय जगद्धिताय च प्रयतमान: द्रश्यते। रविचन्द्र्यो: ग्रहणयोरानयनं एकादशीप्रभृतिव्रतपर्वनिर्धारणं मानवानां शुभाशुभप्रतिपादकमिदं शास्त्रं नूनं महत्वपूर्णमस्तीति। स्कन्धत्रयात्मकं ज्योतिषशास्त्रं बहुविस्तृततं सम्पूर्णांगयुक्तं च वर्तते। अत्र सिद्धान्तस्कन्धस्य ज्ञानं काठिन्ययुक्तं गुरुगम्यं च वर्तते, यतो हि तत्रोक्तकालविधानं, नवविधमानं, भूगोलसहितखगोलवलयानां ज्ञानं तु व्यक्ताव्यक्तभगोलवासनमयं विद्यते। तज्ज्ञानं गणितगोलकुशलदैवज्ञैरेव सम्भवभाव्यते। सिद्धान्तस्कन्धस्य परम्परायां आद्यसमुपलब्धग्रन्थ: सूर्यसिद्धान्त एव वर्तते, यत्र सारल्येन सिद्धान्तस्य ज्ञानं वैशिष्ट्यं च प्रतिपादितं वर्तते। सम्प्रत्युपलब्धग्रन्थसूर्यसिद्धान्तस्य संस्कृतमाध्यमेन यादृशी टीका पण्डितप्रवराचार्यकपिलेश्वरशास्त्रिवर्येण कृता सा नूनं अपूर्वेति।
