Harivansh Puran Book
Harivansh Puran Book (हरिवंश पुराण पुस्तक): The Harivansh Parva is the final part of the Mahabharata and is also famous as the ‘Harivansh Purana’. The Harivansh Purana contains three parts (Harivansh Parva, Vishnu Parva, and Bhavishya Parva) and consists of 318 chapters.
Harivansh Parva: This part provides a detailed account of the story of Krishna’s lineage, the Vrishnis, and the Andhakas, and following the description of this primitive parva, the story of King Prithu is there. Separate from the context, the description of Pretakalpa (funeral rites and Shraddha) has details in nine chapters. Moreover, within this, in the 21st chapter, the story of Brahmadatta, who understood the speech of animals, is there. The accounts of King Pururava and Urvashi hold similarities to the descriptions of the Chandravanshi (lunar dynasty) kings.
Vishnu Parva: This part is the most extensive and significant segment of the text. It contains a rich and detailed description of the various pastimes of Krishna, particularly his childhood exploits, which have a comprehensive narrative. When compared to the accounts in the Srimad Bhagavatam, many instances reveal notable differences. Moreover, in some cases, other events are also there.
Bhavishya Parva: This section is a seemingly unrelated compilation of various narratives presented in a Puranic style. The name of this Parva is based on the title of the first chapter. Where hints are made about events that will occur in the future.
