किन्तु यदि वट वृक्ष की छाँव लेनी है, वैषम्य के ताप से विमुक्त होना है, तो वट वृक्ष के समीप, उसके नीचे तो आना ही पड़ेगा। शिष्य और कुछ नहीं केवल विषमता के ताप को त्याग, वट वृक्ष के नीचे आया एक पथिक भर ही तो होता है। इसे उसकी विवशता भी कह सकते है और आवश्यकता भी, किन्तु वट वृक्ष को इससे कोई तात्पर्य नहीं। उसका तो मूल धर्म केवल छांव देना है, वह उसे निर्लिप्त भाव से देता रहेगा। शिष्य बनाए नहीं जाते, बन जाते है। उन्हें बनना पड़ जाता है। गुरु की वाणी में किया गया शिष्य के प्रति कथन भी यथार्थत: शिष्य का ही भाव होना चाहिए -Shishyopnishad Book.
