Carry it on your back.
Always keep it closed. Do not look at it yourself, nor show it to others. The other bag is full of your faults. Hang it in front of you and repeatedly open it to look inside.” The man picked up both bags. But, he made a mistake. He loaded the bag of his faults on his back and kept opening it to look inside while also showing it to others. As a result, the blessings he sought were reversed. He began to decline, and he started experiencing sorrow and unrest.
Thereafter, people began to call him bad. Thus, dear readers, you too should stop the habit of revealing your neighbor’s and acquaintances’ faults and should always keep an eye on your own shortcomings. सृष्टिकर्ता ब्रह्मा ने एक बार मनुष्य को बुलाकर पूछा- ‘तुम क्या चाहते हो?’ मनुष्य ने कहा मैं प्रगति चाहता हूँ৷ सुखशान्ति चाहता हूँ और यह चाहता हूँ कि सभी मेरी प्रशंसा करें৷ ब्रह्माजी ने मनुष्य के सामने दो थैले रख दिये৷ वे बोले- इन्हें ले लो৷ इनमें से एक थैले में तुम्हारे पड़ोसी की बुराइयाँ भरी हैं! इसे पीठ पर लाद लो৷ उसे सदा बन्द रखना৷ न तो तुम स्वयं देखना और न तो दूसरे को ही दिखाना৷ दूसरे थैले में तुम्हारे दोष भरे हैं৷ उसे सामने लटका लो और बार- बार खोलकर देखा करो৷ मनुष्य ने दोनों थैले उठा लिये৷ परन्तु उससे भूल हो गई৷
उसने अपनी बुराईयों का थैला पीठ पर लाद लिया और उसका मुहँ खोलकर उसे देखता रहता और दूसरों को भी दिखाता रहता था৷ इससे उसने जो वरदान माँगे थे, वे भी उलटे हो गये৷ वह अवनति करने लगा৷ उसे दुःख और अशान्ति प्राप्त होने लगी৷ सब लोग उसे बुरा बताने लगे৷ अतएव पाठकगण, आप लोगों को भी अपने पड़ोसी और परिचितों के दोषों को प्रकट करने की आदत को बन्द करना चाहिये और अपने दोषों पर सदा दृष्टि रखनी चाहिये৷ इस प्रकार के कई दृष्टान्त इस पुस्तक में छोटे छोटे कहानियों का रूप में दिया हुआ है৷ इसे पढ़ने से जीवन के प्रति अपना दायित्व का आभाष होने लगता है৷
