Dhanurveda Samhita Book
The Dhanurveda Samhita Book (धनुर्वेद संहिता पुस्तक) is an important ancient text of India that pertains to archery (the art of warfare and the science of weapons). It is considered an Upaveda of the Yajurveda and is attributed to Sage Vasishtha. The Dhanurveda Sanhita describes the principles of warfare, the construction of weapons, their usage, and proper practice.
The book states that at the location where a sound is, one should focus one’s mind on the archer. After that, instead of seeing the established target with the eyes, one should determine the target (the object to pierce) through concentration of the mind, solely using the ears. The other person should then create a sound on the bronze vessel by striking it with pebbles.
The archer should then determine the target according to the location of the reverberating sound. Afterward, they should gradually establish a target at a distance of two hands. As they become proficient, they should fix it. In this way, according to the prescriptions of the scriptures, the archer should continuously practice aiming at the sound target from a progressively greater distance in the dark.
