प्राचीन काल से ही मनुष्य स्वप्नों के प्रति रूचि रखता आया है। मनुष्य का स्वप्नों के विषय में रूचि रखना सही भी है क्योकि ईश्वर ने अपनी संपूर्ण सृष्टी में “स्वप्न” केवल मानव जीवन को ही प्रदान किये है। शायद आपको ये मालूम न हो की इस सम्पूर्ण जगत में स्वप्न केवल मनुष्य ही देखता है। अन्य कोई पशु, पक्षी या दूसरा जीवधारी नही। इस प्रकार ईश्वर द्वारा प्रदत्त “स्वप्न” मानव की सर्वश्रेष्ठ निधि कही जा सकती है। यही मनुष्य सक्रिय है, जीवित है, तो निश्चय ही वह कभी–न-कभी स्वप्न अवश्य देखता है। स्वप्न में भी मनुष्य उसी प्रकार भाग लेता है जैसे वास्तविक जीवन में। जिस समय पांचो कर्मेन्द्रियाँ, पांचो ज्ञानेन्द्रियॉँ और मन कर्म नहीं करते या अपनी अपनी क्रिया नहीं करते तथा ज्ञान भी नष्ट हो जाता है, उस काल में जो नाना प्रकार का व्यवहार मनुष्य देखता है उसे “स्वप्न देखा” ऐसा कहते है। -Swapan Phal Vichar Book.
इस प्रकार के व्यवहार अथवा स्वप्न दो प्रकार के होते है।
१ जाग्रतावस्था के स्वप्न २ सूषुप्तावस्था के स्वप्न
जाग्रतावस्था वाले स्वपन प्रेमी–प्रेमिकाओं कवियों और दार्शनिक किस्म के होते है। जैसे कोई प्रेमिका अपने प्रेमी के विषय में सोचती है और सोचते-सोचते कुछ ही क्षणों में वह प्रेमी की बाहों के बंधन में पँहुच जाती है और ये सब क्रिया उसके सामने साकार होने लगती है। तन्मयता में लीन इन क्षणों में सब प्रकार के हाव-भाव पुरुष विशेष को स्पष्ट दिखाई देते है। इसी प्रकार कवि भी जाग्रतावस्था में ही भावविभोर होकर अपनी भावना के अनुसार वह दृश्य देखता रहता है और वास्तव में ये जाग्रतावस्था के स्वप्न ही कवि की कल्पना और कलम की प्रेरणा होते है। -Swapan Phal Vichar Book.
