हम किसी भी तथ्य का निरीक्षण करके उसे व्यवहार में लाते हैं और अनुभव के उपरान्त सहजता से यह जान लेते हैं कि क्या सच है क्या झूठ। इसी जिज्ञासा के फलस्वरूप ही विज्ञान सर्वोच्च शिखर पर है। जो ज्ञान है वही विज्ञान है और अन्य ज्ञान अज्ञान है। शास्त्र जन्य ज्ञान को ज्ञान और अनुभवजन्य ज्ञान को विज्ञान कहते हैं। ज्योतिष शास्त्र के दो खण्ड हैं- गणित व फलित। गणित यदि वचन है तो फलित अर्थ है। फलित रहित गणित भी व्यर्थ है। दोनों में घनिष्ठता होते हुए भी फलित गणित के अधीन है। वस्तुतः गणित स्वतंत्र और फलित परतंत्र है। गणितीय गणना से ज्ञात होता है कि आकाश में सूर्यादि ग्रहों की स्थिति क्या है? आप स्वयं सोचे यदि ये गणनाएं गलत होतीं तो सूर्य और चन्द्र ग्रहण का पूर्वाभास दिनांक और समय के रूप में किया जाता है वह भी गलत होता। लेकिन ऐसा नहीं होता है, अतः स्पष्ट है कि गणित खण्ड सत्य है। – Laghu Parashari.
