Brihjjaatakam Book
Brihjjaatakam Book (बृहज्जातकम् पुस्तक): Concerning the initial astrological text selected for translation, namely, the Brihat Jataka by Varaha Mihira, the author widely regarded it as the premier work in astrology. “To assist those who have struggled to navigate the vast ocean of horoscopy, the author has crafted this modest vessel composed of various meters, each imbued with multiple interpretations. Most of the verses were designed to express several meanings. As a result, four commentaries emerged.
The most prominent is that of Bhatta Utpala, while the other is famous as Subodhini. Both commentaries are currently in the possession of the author. The third commentary, Mudrakshari, interprets most of the verses arithmetically, with letters representing numerical values corresponding to the 27 asterisms, 12 zodiac signs, and 9 planets. The fourth commentary is the Sreepateyam. The author composed a shorter work on astrology, Laghu Jataka. Therefore, the current work is similar to Brihat Jataka. Jataka, or horoscopy, constitutes one of the three divisions of Jyotish-Shastra. The author has addressed all three branches of Jyotish-Shastra.
