Shivling/Lingam (शिवलिंग): The Matsya Purana while depicting Lord Shiva states that the Lord should be garlanded with snakes. Most images of Shiva in modern times show only a single snake around his neck. Another common depiction is a five-headed serpent forming a canopy over the Shivalinga. The Puranas and other holy scriptures have numerous stories associated with snakes and Lord Shiva. (Shivling). The snake around Shiva’s neck represents the endless cycle of birth and regeneration. Another symbolism is that the snake around the neck represents the ego, which can once be controlled as an ornament.
As per the ancient texts, all the snakes found on Lord Shiva’s body became ornaments during his marriage to Parvati. It is also a say that Shiva made ornaments from poisonous snakes and gifted them to Parvati. Moreover, snakes, especially cobras, were carrying ‘mani’ (rubies) in their heads. These rubies serve as lamps at night for Parvati and Shiva. (Shivling) The Shiva Purana described the Lingam as a beginningless and endless pillar interpreted as a cosmic pillar symbolizing the infinite nature of Shiva.
The Linga Purana stated that nature itself is a Linga. It means that the Lingam is devoid of color, taste, auditory touch, etc. Moreover, it showed as Prakarti or nature. In the Skanda Purana, they described Shiva Lingam as Shiva from whom the there was the creation of entire universe and where he ultimately submerges. The Shvetasvatara Upanishad says that Lord Shiva, the Supreme Being, has no Linga (sign or symbol). Simply put, it means that it is impossible to define Brahman, which is the formless Shiva.
For instance, the Shivling represents the Almighty Supreme Shiva who is formless. It has no physical form. Every form is his form. Moreover, the whole universe is his image. We call him Mahadev, which means he is the God of Gods. Here we should not confuse with Lord Shiva or Lord Shankar. Moreover, by worshiping Shivalinga one gets children, wealth, knowledge and salvation. Get rid of every crisis. Shivling Puja: According to astrology, worshiping Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati will get rid of any crisis. Along with this, happiness and prosperity increase.
