Through the dialogue between Guru and disciple, all the points mentioned in the Upanishads have been touched upon in a very simple and interesting language. Like other Upanishads, although its main purpose is also to attain Brahma or Moksha, yet other subjects are also beautifully described as helpful means. No doubt, many commentaries have been written on Kathopanishad but after reading them, I felt that they are not fully capable of satisfying all the queries of the seekers.

कठोपनिषद बहुत बार आपने पढ़ा होगा। बहुत बार कठोपनिषद के संबंध में बातें सुनी होंगी। लेकिन कठोपनिषद जितना सरल मालूम पड़ता है, उतना सरल नहीं है। ध्यान रहे, जो बातें बहुत कठिन हैं, उन्हें ऋषियों ने बहुत सरल ढंग से कहने की कोशिश की है। क्योंकि वे बातें ही इतनी कठिन हैं कि सरल ढंग से कहने पर भी समझ में नही आएंगी। अगर सीधा-सीधा कह दिया जाएं तो आपसे उनका कोई संबंध, कोई संपर्क ही नहीं होगा। कठोपनिषद एक कथा है, एक कहानी है। लेकिन उस कहानी में वह सब है, जो जीवन में छिपा है। उपनिषद् भारतीय दर्शन के चूड़ान्त निदर्शन हैं।
कठोपनिषद् से मैं विशेष रूप से प्रभावित हुई। गुरु शिष्य संवाद द्वारा इसमें उपनिषदों में वर्णित समस्त बिन्दुओं का स्पर्श अत्यन्त सरल और सरस भाषा में किया गया है। अन्य उपनिषदों की भाँति यद्यपि इसका भी मुख्य प्रयोजन ब्रह्म प्राप्ति अथवा मोक्ष प्राप्ति ही है तथापि अन्य विषयों का भी सहकारी साधनों के रूप में सुन्दर वर्णन है। निस्सन्देह कठोपनिषद् पर अनेकानेक भाष्य लिखे जा चुके हैं परन्तु उन्हें पढ़कर मुझे ऐसा आभास हुआ कि जिज्ञासुओं की समस्त जिज्ञासाएँ शान्त कर पाने में वे पूर्णतया समर्थ नहीं हैं।
