Ashtavakra Geeta Book
Ashtvkra Geeta Book (अष्टावक्र गीता पुस्तक): The Ashtavakra Gita is a spiritual literary heritage based on the dialogues between the King of Mithila and the extremely deformed sage Ashtavakra. It is a unique scripture of Sanskrit literature. Ashtavakra was a Buddha-like figure whose name people take in esteem in the spiritual world. He attained self-realization at a young age.
There is a story about his life that, although he was deformed and crooked with eight bent limbs, he had already imparted wisdom to his father while still in the womb. Upon hearing this advice, his father’s ego started exposing. He was not self-realized; he was probably just a scholar. Scholars often have the greatest ego because, as experts in scriptures, they feel a sense of pride in their knowledge.
As the unborn baby challenged his arrogance, he must have become aggressive. He thought that his son, who had not even been born yet, was giving him counsel. At that moment, he cursed him, saying that when he would take birth, he would have a crook with eight limbs. Indeed, that happened. So his name was Ashtavakra. When the young Ashtavakra resolved King Janak’s queries, the resolution of those doubts became the Ashtavakra Gita.
