Chaurasi Vaishnavan Ki Varta Book
Chaurasi Vaishnavan Ki Varta Book (चौरासी वैष्णवन की वार्ता पुस्तक) is a prose text written in Brajbhasha. It contains the stories (biographies) of the disciples of Mahaprabhu Vallabhacharya from the Pushti Marg sect. There are differing opinions among scholars regarding the author of this text, but most agree that it was the composition of Goswami Gokul Nath.
This text, along with other ‘Tale texts’, is significant because it reveals the life stories of the ancient great poets of Brajbhasha literature. Its importance is even greater because it represents one of the earliest prose works in Brajbhasha. If these books are authentic, they can provide insight into the form of Brajbhasha prose in the 17th century.
The tales presented in these books shed significant light on the religious, social, and political circumstances of that time, thus holding considerable historical significance as well. Chaurasi Vaishnavan Ki Varta compiles the stories of Mahaprabhu Vallabhacharya’s disciples. The last four tales are related to Ashtachap. In this book, Tale number 81 features Surdas, 82 features Paramananda Das, 83 features Kumbhandas, and 84 features Krishnadas.
