Brahman Gotrawali Book
Brahman Gotrawali Book (ब्राह्मण गोत्रावली पुस्तक): Even educated Brahmin youth in our country do not have complete knowledge of their lineage, Vedas, sub-Vedas, branches, and sutras. Most Brahmin youth are curious to know what their lineage, ancestors, branches, and sutras are. The Puranic authors divided Indian Brahmins into two parts by calling them Vindhya Uttariya and Vindhya Dakshinavasi and named them Gaud and Dravid. The Vindhya Uttariya were Gauds, and the Vindhya Dakshinavasi were called Dravids.
Because of living in different regions, both were further subdivided into 5-5 parts, such as the Saraswati Brahmins, who lived around the Saraswati River, were called Saraswat; those living around Kannauj were called Kanyakubj; those in Mithila were called Maithil; those living north of the Sarayu River beyond Ayodhya were called Sarayu Parin; those in Odisha were called Utkal; and the remaining were called Gauds.
Similarly, Dravid Brahmins have divisions into 5 parts based regionally. Such Karnataka Brahmins were Karnataka Brahmins. Those living in Andhra were Telinga Brahmins; in Maharashtra, they were Marathi. In Gujarat, they were Gurjar Brahmins. Besides, the rest were Dravid Brahmins. This short booklet describes the lineage, ancestors, branches, and sutras. Moreover, crest, meter, sub-Vedas, titles, and a brief description of the original villages of only Vindhya Uttariya Brahmins. Such as Gaud, Saraswat, Maithil, Kanyakubj, Sarayu Parin, and Utkal Brahmins.
