Ekadashi Mahatma Book
Ekadashi Mahatma Book (एकादशी महात्म पुस्तक): In a year, there are 24 Ekadashi days, but with the addition of Malmas or Adhikmas, their number increases to 26. In Hindu tradition, Ekadashi holds significant importance for religious practices. The scriptures and Puranas state that those who observe the Ekadashi fast should always adhere to dharma (righteousness). Also, those who do not observe the fast should also refrain from consuming garlic, eggplant, onions, meat, alcohol, tobacco, and betel nuts on Ekadashi day. The Ekadashi fast is very sacred.
A person observing the fast should meditate on Lord Vishnu starting from the day of Dashami. Devotees can receive blessings from Lord Vishnu. This practice prevents and cures diseases and helps eliminate toxins from the body while cleansing the intestinal system. It is a belief that a person who observes the Ekadashi fast becomes free from all their sins. Among the twenty-two Ekadashis of the year, the most important is Nirjala Ekadashi, a fast during which no water is consumed. During Nirjala Ekadashi, devotees avoid eating any kind of food and drinking water.
