शक्ति साधना के अन्तर्गत सबसे प्राचीन उल्लेख माँ दुर्गा का मिलता है। दुर्गासप्तशती के अनुसार माँ दुर्गा का प्राकट्य समस्त देवी-देवताओं के अंशों से हुआ है। भारत में शक्ति उपासना के प्रमुख केन्द्रों में, जो शक्तिपीठ के नाम से भी जाने जाते हैं, वहाँ देवी साधना के अन्तर्गत मेँ दुर्गा की उपासना ही प्रमुख रूप से होती है।
