Shaligram

Shaligram/Shaligram Stone (शालिग्राम): It is a black stone. It was because of the curse that Lord Vishnu turned into stone. The curse is so powerful that even the most powerful God, one of the trinity, could do nothing but accept it. Lord Vishnu accepted this curse from one of his most loyal devotees, Vrinda. Shaligrams are typically ammonite shell fossils from the Devonian and Cretaceous periods between 400 and 66 million years ago. In addition, fossils are sacred in the Hindu faith because they resemble symbols associated with Vishnu, particularly the Sankha (conch).

The Shaligram is a sacred stone found in the Gandaki River in the Mukti Nath region of Nepal. This original and natural stone is worshiped by people as an iconic representation of Lord Vishnu, just as they worship the Shivalinga as the anionic Lord Shiva. The goal of the Shaligram pilgrimage is to worship at the main temple and associated shrines in the sacred Muktinath complex high in the mountains of Nepal’s Mustang district.

It is a fact that it is a must to worship Shaligram daily except for a certain time. At such times there is an illness, travel, menstruation etc. People spend millions of efforts to remove poverty from their homes. Moreover, keeping a Tulsi in every house and worshiping it daily with a Shaligram (stone) near its root is very auspicious.

For instance, the origin of ammonite black stone or Shaligram is available in the Gandaki Riverbed. It is with attribution to their legend. Consequently, all pious Hindu women worship the Tulsi plant with flowers and milk. But we have to assume that Lord Krishna is present on it on this auspicious day. Besides, he will lead their marriage.
