Description

Blowing Conch/बजाने वाला शंख: In Hindi the word Shankha means pacifying the malefic and inauspicious effects in the atmosphere. Hence before the Puja and Havan this conch is blown to make the atmosphere virtuous and providential and during the establishment of deity and idols, it is also blown. The Blowing Conch has a significant role in Hindu religious activities.

As per the legend it is believed that the Conch has emerged from the churning of the seas, alias Samudra Manthan. There are many types of Shankha are available but significant are Left Handed Conch Shell and Right Handed Conch Shell. Right handed conch shell is considered more auspicious than that of Left handed conch shell. The right handed conch is also called as Valampuri or Lakshmi Shankha.

These Blowing Conch are the symbols of virtuousness. Hence it is kept either wrapped in a red cloth or on a silver pitcher or clay pitcher with a great care and reverence. The water kept into the conch is sprinkled at the place of Puja and Havan before the performance starts. It makes the area providential. It is also believed that the Conch contains cosmic energy.

Therefore when it is blown, it emanates cosmic energy. Moreover besides using it in Puja, if it is held near the ear, a sound of waves is heard, which is actually a natural vibration of cosmic energy which is magnified while entering the conch shell.

Blowing Conch is also good for our health. According to our scriptures, the conch shell is used to cure many diseases. The water kept into the conch overnight can cure the diseases like Jaundice, skin diseases, brittle bone problems, teeth, stomach problems and many others as it contains Sulphur, Magnesium, Phosphorous, Calcium etc.

The sounds generated by blowing the conch balance the chakra in our body. The vibration produced by the conch purifies and sanctifies the air in the surroundings and destroys the bacterium and pathogens in the atmosphere.

The sound of the Conch Shell or Shankha is synonymous with the beginning of something important in Sanatana Dharma (Hindu Dharma) and Buddhism for it symbolizes luster, brilliance, purity and auspicious beginning. It is considered to be a pious article and is used in all religious rituals.

The waves and vibration created by it reduces the strength of the distressing frequencies. The person blows the Blowing Conch develop a good lung condition and capacity. In Pranayam it is said to be a breathing exercise which can enhance the life span.
