Ashtang Hriday Book (अष्टांग ह्रदय पुस्तक): Ashtang Hriday is one of the most celebrated and most often studied treatises on Indian medicine, after Caraka-Samhita and Sushrut-Samhita. Ashtang Holiday contains six sections. Each stanza consists of varying numbers of Adhyayas. The total number of chapters is one hundred twenty. The text is composed entirely in poetry. The total number of verses is seven thousand one hundred twenty.

The first section, Sutra Sthana, has thirty chapters dealing with the basic doctrines of Āyurveda. Principles of health, and prevention of diseases. Besides, properties of articles on diet and drugs, humoral physiology and pathology, different kinds of diseases, and methods of treatment. The second section, Sharir Sthana, has six chapters dealing with embryology, anatomy, physiology, physiognomy, physical and psychological constitutions, auspicious and inauspicious dreams and omens, signs of bad prognosis, and oncoming death.

In addition, the third section, Nidan Sthana with Sixteen chapters, describes the causes, premonitory symptoms, characteristic features, pathogenesis, and prognosis of some important diseases coming within the realm of Kaya Chikitsa (inner medicine). Furthermore, the fourth section, Chikitsa Sthana’s twenty-two chapters. This elaborates on the methods of treatment of all major organic diseases. Moreover, it includes efficacious medicinal recipes, diet, and care of the patient.

पहला खण्ड सूत्र स्थान तीस अध्यायों से मिलकर बना है, जो आयुर्वेद की मूल सिद्धांतों पर चर्चा करते हैं। स्वास्थ्य के सिद्धांत, बीमारियों से बचाव, आहार और औषधि के गुण, रसायनिक शरीर विज्ञान और रोग विज्ञान, विभिन्न प्रकार की बीमारियाँ और उनके उपचार के तरीके। दूसरा खंड शरीर स्थान छह अध्यायों से मिलकर बना है, जिसमें गर्भावस्था, शरीर विज्ञान, शारीरिक और मानसिक संविचार, शुभ और अशुभ सपने और शकुन, खराब पूर्वानुमान और आने वाली मौत के लक्षण शामिल हैं।

तीसरा खंड निदान स्थान सोलह अध्यायों में संलेखित है, जिसमें कारण, संकेत, विशेष लक्षण, पथोजनेसिस और पूर्वानुमान करने वाली कुछ महत्वपूर्ण बीमारियों का वर्णन है जो काया चिकित्सा की खाते में आती हैं। चौथा खंड चिकित्सा स्थान बाईस अध्यायों में संक्षेपित किया गया है, जिसमें सभी मुख्य अक्षिक रोगों के उपचार के तरीके, सक्रिय औषधि योजनाएं, आहार और रोगी की देखभाल का विस्तारित विवरण है।
