Nakshatra Book, jyotish is a ray of the “Sun”, the only light giver of the universe, the cause of the seasons and winds. And the controller and master of the world. ‘Jyotish’ means ‘astrology’ or ‘light’ or ‘division’. It is one of the six organs, the pair of eyes, the instrument of vision. Thus, in short, each nakshatra is the abode or house of 28 deities. Who are entrusted with the duty of protecting and guiding cosmic and solar evolution. The zodiac consists of 360 degrees, which for convenience has the division of 12 houses of 30 degrees each. This has again division into 27 parts of 13.20 degrees each has the name as Nakshatras. Even though we have divided the zodiac into 27 different nakshatras or asterisms, they are only the prominent members. That is of several groups of nakshatras.
In other words, the nakshatra starting from Ashvini is the head of a particular group of stars. According to the second method there are 28 portions or nakshatras of 12.51-3/7 degrees each. This additional portion situated between the region of Uttara Aashaadha and Shravan has the allotment to a nakshatra called ‘Abhijit’. In the line of hierarchy of nakshatras, Abhijit is at serial number 22, thereby shifting the serial number of the subsequent nakshatras by one.
