There are many concepts about number three. In many countries it is told that odd numbers are providential particularly the days on the multiple of 3. In England, three Mondays in the year are inauspicious. The 1^st Monday of April, 2^nd Monday of August and the 3^rd one is last Monday of December. अंक शकुन-अपशकुन: प्राचीन काल से अंकों के आधार पर भविष्य जानने की अनेक तरीके प्रसिद्ध हैं। इस विज्ञान को अंक विज्ञान कहा जाता है। विस्तार से इसकी चर्चा करना यहां संभव नहीं है, लेकिन कुछ मुख्य-मुख्य बातें जान लेना मनोरंजक होगा। अंगुलियों पर खुले हाथ के अनुसार ‘वी’ बनाकर गिनती गिनना तथा दो हाथों से एक ‘एक्स’ बनाकर गिनती गिनना और भविष्य जानना पुराने जमाने से प्रचलित है। अंकों/अंक शकुन-अपशकुन के विषय में अनेक धारणा प्रचलित हैं, जिनमें से सबसे अधिक प्रचलित यहां दिए जा रहे हैं।

महीने के पहले दिन पैदा होने वाला बच्चा भाग्यशाली माना जाता है, जबकि घर के लिए यह नम्बर अपशकुनी है।
दो तारीख को पैदा होने वाली लड़की भाग्यशाली होती है। तीन तारीख बहुत भाग्यशाली अंक माना जाता है। चार का प्रभाव भयानक माना जाता है और मृत्यु का परिचायक होता है। पांच में जादुई शक्तियां होती हैं।

सात के अंक के विषय में अनेकों धारणा हैं। यह एक भाग्यशाली और रहस्यवादी अंक माना जाता है। इसकी मूल संख्या के पीछे यह विश्वास है कि इस विश्व का निर्माण सात दिनों में हुआ था। बाइबिल में भी अनेक संदर्भों में इसके महत्व को स्थापित किया गया है। जिन्दगी में सातवां बच्चा भाग्यशाली माना जाता है और यदि वह पुत्र हो तो उसमें दो गुना गुण अधिक होते हैं। ऐसा मानते हैं कि यह किसी भी बिमारी को ठीक कर सकता है और यह अपने तृतीय नेत्र से देखकर किसी का भी भविष्य बता सकता है।

ऐसा भी मानते हैं कि यदि किसी व्यक्ति की जन्म तिथि सात से कटने वाली हो तो वह भाग्यशाली होता है। जैसे सात साल में व्यक्ति का चरित्र बदलता है, उसी तरह सात के पहाड़े पर आया अंक हर दृष्टि से भाग्यशाली होता है क्योंकि उसके हर सातवें जन्मदिन पर उसके व्यक्तित्व में परिवर्तन आता है। यह भी मानते हैं कि यदि कोई बच्चा पहले सात साल दु:ख का कारण बने तो अगले सात सालों में वह भाग्यशाली सिद्ध होता है। इसी प्रकार के अनेक उदारहण दिए जा सकते हैं, जिनमें सात के अंक का महत्व स्थापित होता है।

तीन अंक शकुन-अपशकुन:

तीन के अंक के साथ बहुत सी धारणा जुड़ीं हुई हैं। बहुत से देशों में यह विश्वास किया जाता है कि विषम अंक अधिक भाग्यशाली होते हैं, खासतौर से तीन और तीन गुणा तीन। यह माना जाता है कि बहुत से काम एक दिन में तीन दफा किए जाते हैं। बहुत से अनुष्ठान तीन दफा होते हैं और शराब पीते हुए लोग थ्री चीयर्स कहते हैं। इसके विपरीत टैक्स वसूल करने वाला आदमी अपनी कार्यवाही करने से पहले तीन बार पूछता है। एक मुहावरा यह भी है, जो तीन को अपशकुनी बनाता है कि एक निराशा के पीछे-पीछे दो और आती हैं।

अमेरिका में भी माना जाता है कि बुरी बातें तीन दफा होती हैं। तीन अंक अपशकुनी इसलिए भी माना गया है कि पीटर ने क्राईस्ट को तीन दफा इंकार किया था, वैसे यह अध्यात्मवादी और शक्तिशाली अंक माना जाता है। यह भी मानते हैं कि बच्चे के जन्म में तीन भागीदार होते हैं— मां, बाप और बच्चा यानि तीन का अंक स्वयं जीवन का प्रतीक है।

तेरह अंक शकुन-अपशकुन:

तेरह का अंक की धारणा दुनिया में अपना विशिष्ट स्थान रखती है और यह धारणा प्राचीन काल से चली आ रही है। इसको अपशकुनी इसलिए माना गया की अंतिम भोजन में क्राइस्ट के साथ बारह और लोग थे। किसी भी दावत में केवल तेरह व्यक्तियों को आमंत्रित करना किसी बहुत साहसी आदमी का ही काम हो सकता है। परम्परा के अनुसार इस भोज का कोई भी एक व्यक्ति भोज समाप्त होने के साथ ही मृत्यु को प्राप्त हो जायेगा या अधिक से अधिक उसी साल में। वायुसेवा में उड़ान का नम्बर तेरह रखने से कतराते हैं और हवाई जहाज की सीटों पर तेरह का नम्बर अंकित नहीं होता। फ्रांस में लोग तेरह न बोलकर बारह जमा एक बोलते हैं। शुक्रवार को यदि तेरह तारीख पड़े तो हर प्रकार से सतर्क रहना चाहिए। धारणा के अनुसार इस नम्बर से संबंधित हर चीज से बचना चाहिए।

अशुभ अंक शकुन-अपशकुन:

बिना किसी स्पष्ट कारण के लोगों ने साल के कुछ दिनों को अशुभ मान लिया है, इसलिए वे इन दिनों कोई भी महत्वपूर्ण काम आरम्भ नहीं करते। वैसे अलग-अलग व्यक्तियों के लिए अलग-अलग दिन अशुभ होते हैं, पर इंग्लैंड में साल के तीन सोमवार बहुत अशुभ माने जाते हैं। अप्रैल के महीने का पहला सोमवार, अगस्त का दूसरा सोमवार और दिसम्बर का आखिरी सोमवार। इन दिनों में कोई न कोई भीषण घटना घटी, जिनका इतिहास साक्षी है।

जैसे दिसम्बर के आखिरी सोमवार को जुडास स्कारियट ने जन्म लिया था, जिसने ईसा को धोखा दिया। इसी तरह की घटनाओं के कारण गांव के लोग इन दिनों की उपेक्षा करते हैं। शुक्रवार वैसे भी अशुभ दिन माना जाता है। इन दिनों के अशुभ माने जाने के कारण क्या हैं यह तो भविष्यवक्ता ही बता सकते हैं, लेकिन यहां पर अशुभ दिन की पूरी सूची दी जा रही है।

ब्रिटेन और यूरोप के बहुत से हिस्सों में 28 दिसम्बर साल का सबसे अशुभ दिन माना जाता है। ऐसी मान्यता है कि इस दिन कोई व्यक्ति अगर कोई काम शुरू करेगा तो वह असफल होगा। इसका कारण यह बताया जाता है कि किंग हैरोड ने इसी दिन निरपराध लोगों के कत्लेआम का हुक्म दिया था। इतिहास साक्षी है कि इस दिन सरकारी और गैर सरकारी उत्सवों की योजना इस दिन के लिए बनाई गई, लेकिन बाद में इनको स्थगित कर दिया। इस दिन कोई नए कपड़े नहीं पहनता, क्योंकि वे जल्दी ही फट जाते हैं। इस दिन किसी भी प्रकार का घरेलू काम आरम्भ नहीं किया जाता, नहीं तो वह खराब हो जाता है।
