Meenakshi Panchratnam/मिनाक्षी पंचरत्नम

Meenakshi Panchratnam (मिनाक्षी पंचरत्नम): Meenakshi Panchratnam composed by Sri Adi Shankaracharya, is a devotional Stotra addressed to Goddess Meenakshi Amman, an incarnation of Goddess Parvati. This Meenakshi Panchratnam (five jewels of Goddess Meenakshi) is a hymn praising the Goddess Meenakshi. Meenakshi Panchratnam was composed by Sri Adi Shankaracharya and it beautifully describes the attributes of the Goddess. Goddess Meenakshi is the sister of Lord Vishnu and the divine consort of Lord Mahadev.

Meenakshi is a combination of two root words; ‘mina’ meaning fish and ‘aksi’ meaning eyes. Thus it implies ‘the one who has eyes like that of a fish.’ Goddess Meenakshi glances and looks after her devotees as fishes look after and protect their younger ones with their eyes.

Goddess Meenakshi is the sister of Hindu God Vishnu and the divine consort of Lord Mahadev. The main temple of Goddess Meenakshi Devi is the Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple in Tamilnadu. According to Hindu Mythology chanting of Meenakshi Panchratnam regularly is the most powerful way to please Goddess Meenakshi and get her blessing.

Meenakshi, an ocean of compassion, who is radiant like the multitudes of rising Suns, and is resplendent with the bracelet and necklace and is having reddish lips, with shining rows of smiling teeth, and decorated with silk garments, and is having the feet worshipped by the gods Vishnu, Brahma and Indra and is of the form of the reality and is auspicious.

Her consort is the embodiment of super consciousness, expressing in human body, playing with all His glory. Goddess Meenakshi is an Avatar of the Hindu Goddess Parvati – and consort of Shiva. She is considered as a form of Goddess Lalita Tripurasundari, one of the Dasa Maha Vidya. Mama is the grandeur of the super consciousness, the masculine principle and the beauty of feminine consciousness expresses in the saguna form of Meenakshi. Their chief abode is the Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple. Mother Meenakshi radiates her compassion to everyone and captures everyone’s heart with Her miraculous healing powers. Beside Meenakshi Panchratnam, there are several other great hymns on the goddess, composed in the later centuries by many saints and scholars.
